White House refuses comment about Sadler's McCain remark

White House aide dismissed McCain's views because 'he's dying anyway' – report

Kelly Sadler, a special assistant in the communications office who helps manage talking points for Trump allies, made the comment about McCain during a discussion among the White House communications staffers about Gina Haspel's nomination for Central Intelligence Agency director, which the Arizona Republican announced Wednesday that he opposed.

She was reacting to the comment made by White House communications aide Kelly Sadler.

South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a close friend of McCain, told CBS's "Face the Nation" program in an interview to be aired on Sunday that he was not satisfied with the White House's response to the controversy surrounding Kelly Sadler, a communications aid.

"We respect Sen. McCain's service to our nation, and he and his family are in our prayers during this hard time", the White House said in a statement.

The 81-year-old senator was diagnosed in July with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.

Sadler's comment drew condemnation from many corners, with former Vice President Joe Biden issuing a blistering statement Friday that said decency has "hit rock bottom" in the Trump White House.

A Democrat who unsuccessfully ran in Arizona's 8th Congressional District race during a March special election - and has vowed another run for the seat - tweeted a line from Biden's statement and added her own commentary. He left Washington in December and underwent surgery last month for an infection. "That's why they call him 'Songbird John'". "John McCain fought for us in Vietnam, was a prisoner of war in Vietnam, came home and dedicated his life to public service".

Pharma breathes easy as Trump's drug pricing plan fizzles
Trump's plan mostly targets drug makers and distributors, seeking to increase competition and create incentives for lower prices. Trump called his plan the "most sweeping action in history to lower the price of prescription drugs for the American people".

"I don't understand what kind of environment you're working in when that would be acceptable and then you can come to work the next day and still have a job", Meghan McCain said on The View. "I like people who weren't captured".

Haspel faced grilling Wednesday by the Senate Intelligence Committee about her role overseeing some CIA operations after the September 11 attacks. Sadler reportedly said of McCain, "He's dying anyway", so his opinion "doesn't matter".

Sanders later clarified that Sadler still works at the White House.

McCain has always denied giving up harmful information when he was a prisoner of war and when critics distributed a flyer during the 2008 SC presidential primary claiming he did, it was debunked by the fact-finding website PolitiFact. "That is what we try to put forward in everything we do both in word and in action", Sanders said during her briefing, highlighting President Trump's policies.

The crowd booed, and Trump added, "I won't use his name".

Echoing Sanders' private comments to staffers, Mulvaney said the leak was created to hurt Sadler and "completely ignored the harm it would do to the McCain family, which is doubly inconsiderate". We have a respect for all Americans.
