Hamas gave Israel a proposal on long-term truce and exchange of bodies

Six Said Killed as Explosion Rocks Central Gaza Strip

In the latest action at the Gaza-Israeli border, approximately 10,000 Palestinians protested along the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip for the sixth consecutive Friday, with dozens attempting to breach the fence and others sending incendiary kites into Israel created to burn down forests.

Israel also struck a facility of the Gaza Strip's Hamas rulers overnight, the movement's military wing said on Sunday, with Israel occupation forces claiming it was reacting to "kite-borne fire bombings".

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza identified the two protesters as Baha' Qdeih, 23, and Mohammad Abu Reeda, 20.

The attempted breach came at a time of heightened tension on the Gaza-Israel border, including more than a month of weekly mass protests near the fence.

Gaza media reported the explosion was a "work accident", meaning the militants were killed when explosives they were dealing with went off.

Since March 30, thousands of Gazans have protested at the border region to demand that Palestinians refugees and their descendants be allowed to return to their former homes in Israel.

The rallies will culminate on May 15, which will mark the 70th anniversary of Israel's establishment - an event Palestinians refer to as the "Nakba" or "The Catastrophe".

It is worth mentioning that Israeli Ynet News said one of the army's drones managed, Friday, "to down an incendiary kite, apparently by cutting the cord attached to it". But Hamas later said that they were members of the organization and blamed Israel for the deaths. The military has faced worldwide criticism for its use of live ammunition. Although some protesters have targeted Israeli troops with stones and set tires on fire, trying to approach the fence in the thick smoke, the protests have been largely peaceful.

The IDF has accused Hamas of using the protests as cover to carry out attacks against IDF troops.

It said that the soldiers "detained and shot the two Palestinians in the area between the barbed-wire border fence and the Palestinians lands, east of Khan Younis".

The brother of a Palestinian Hamas gunman, who was killed in an explosion, is consoled at a hospital in the central Gaza Strip May 5, 2018.
