If you aren't caught up on the series, read at your own risk. Well, some keen-eyed viewers spotted that there were some Navy types from the Chinese People's Liberation Army trying to get involved in the season two opener, so it seems likely the park is in Chinese waters.
In the episode titled Reunion, we're pinged between the real world before Westworld's creation and its potential demise as Dolores seeks to recruit allies for "the valley beyond".
In typical "Westworld" fashion, "Reunion" makes multiple shifts in time that we're not quite sure how to process. In the show's main storyline, Dolores is now leading a revolution-but is it her revolution, or the one that Arnold began and Ford eventually continued?
A protective Arnold (Jeffrey Wright) wasn't ready to send Dolores out to woo Logan, so he took her to his apartment instead.
Arnold shows Dolores a house that's under construction for his family. In episode one of this season, we learned they're also collecting DNA.
William's pitch succeeds, and Logan is destroyed.
Teddy finds out what he is.
. But between William's speech to his father-in-law at the park and the thing last week with Charlotte and Bernard in the secret bunker (where guest experiences and DNA are being uploaded into the Delos system) and the thing with the missing package (malfunctioning Abernathy with tons of code loaded onto him), it's becoming clear that the whole debaucherous playground aspect of the park is just a front for a massive uninhibited data collection of people with money to burn. He has a private presentation that is actually just a private party. Robert and Arnold's technology is so advanced, the rest of the world hasn't caught up yet. It's fitting that we first see Westworld's utopian-like future through her eyes. The Man In Black teases it during a conversation with Lawrence ('We had something else in mind entirely'), while his younger self William explains reasons for investing into Westworld to James Delos off-screen.
James is reluctant about it. "You really are just a thing, I can't believe I fell in love with you". You made me interested in me. If, like me, you were so bored by the first episode that you've already forgotten what happened in it, it doesn't really matter-you'll still be able to follow episode two. And "Reunion" reveals something even worse than mere moral emptiness: the real goal for the park and the reason William (Jimmi Simpson) was able to persuade Delos to invest so heavily in it.
When Dolores and co run into the Confederados, they're basically carrying on their historically-appropriate lives as usual.
Maeve does not seem pleased with Dolores' murdery tactics, since she's seen what Dolores' influence has done in the facility. Ok, so let us in on this worldliness that Dolores is privy to so we can get behind her quest with more passion and understanding. Don't they need to be juiced up to keep going?
William is hell-bent on burning this place to the ground, so he tried to talk El Lazo and his men into helping him on this mission.
Giancarlo Esposito, who gained fame for his role as Gus Fring on AMC's "Breaking Bad", delivers the biggest surprise of the season so far with his role as El Lazo.
- The Man in Black returns to Westworld and begins his journey to the center of the maze, which turns out wasn't anything for him anyway.
Brian: Yeah, I'll say this: The many, many timelines this season feel easier to digest because the show is being upfront about it all. Instead of one or two, we find that nearly everyone there (including a piano-playing Clementine) is a host.
What is the weapon Dolores seeks?
Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) has taken a trip beyond the park's boundaries to be part of a presentation to investors, but Arnold is most concerned with how she reacts to the world.
If Dolores indeed remembers everything, it's worth asking how much she knows about the hidden meaning of Westworld. But what could this weapon be?
