Ronny Jackson withdraws nomination for VA secretary

Nerdcast: Dr. Ronny Jackson drops out, Missouri midterms heat up

How angry is President Donald Trump at the Democratic senator who went public with what Trump says are baseless allegations that derailed his Veterans Affairs nominee? Jon Tester, D-Mont., who dubbed Jackson "Candyman", based on accusations that Jackson liberally distributed medications.

The president is enraged over Tester's work documenting allegations of malfeasance by Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, which quickly unraveled Jackson's nomination to be VA secretary and marks a turning point in the relationship between the moderate Democrat and Trump.

Trump tweets that "phony Democrat charges" have "absolutely devastated" Jackson and his family.

"These are all false accusations", Trump said while calling in to Fox & Friends on Fox News.

Trump said Jackson had a "beautiful record" and that there was no proof of the allegations and criticizing the top Democrat on a Senate panel who was investigation the allegations.

The White House did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment. "The Secret Service has no such record of any incident; specifically, any incident involving Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson".

The official also pointed to a Secret Service statement refuting an allegation first reported by CNN that Jackson became intoxicated during an overseas trip in 2015 and banged on the hotel room door of a female employee.

When Jackson withdrew his name from consideration, he denied all allegations of ethical misconduct. They were the result of an internal White House review of allegations raised against Jackson during his brief confirmation process.

"I've had it happen to me with the Russian Federation collusion hoax", Trump said of what he considered baseless attacks and allegations. Numerous accusations were compiled by the office of U.S. Sen.
