Former Playboy model settles lawsuit, is free to discuss alleged Trump affair

Ex-Playboy Model Can Now Discuss Alleged Trump Affair After Being Freed From Contract

McDougal and American Media Inc., owners of the National Enquirer tabloid, reached a settlement Wednesday that will free her from a contract that barred her from openly discussing her alleged affair with Trump, according to court documents.

On Thursday the 1998 Playmate of the Year told The Wrap: "I am pleased to have reached a settlement with AMI on my own terms, which restores to me the rights to my life story and frees me from this contract that I was misled into signing almost two years ago".

Under the deal, AMI said it would have the right to receive up to United States dollars 75,000 of any future profits from the sale of her story about the alleged 10-month affair, which she says started in 2006. Unlike Daniels, McDougal ended up selling her story to the publisher of the National Enquirer for $150,000, who then proceeded to "spike" the story rather than running it at the time she spoke with them or prior to the 2016 Presidential election.

In a statement Wednesday on the website of Stris & Maher LLP, the law firm representing McDougal charged that the agreement she signed with AMI was invalid because Cohen was in secret talks with AMI to suppress the story.

While the settlement says McDougal and her associates can not sue AMI, it allows for her to still have claims against Cohen or Keith Davidson, her lawyer who negotiated the deal with AMI, The New York Times reported.

"What can you say except I'm sorry", she said. "Today, I'm doing my victory dance". He specified that they got what they were fighting for and that her client does not owe anything to A.M.I. anymore. Her lawsuit claimed that AMI's owner, David Pecker, was close and personal friends with President Donald Trump, and that Pecker was therefore trying to shut the story down. She believed at the time the contract was a work agreement that would allow her to be photographed for and write pieces that would run in the companies' publications. McDougal herself has yet to say anything publicly, but that will surely change in the immediate future.

Karen McDougal, an ex-Playboy model, is now allowed to speak about her alleged affair with Trump. Trump did reimburse her for travel costs when she would fly to meet him, according to McDougal. McDougal spoke out about her alleged relationship during a wide-ranging interview with CNN last month, claiming she had a 10-month affair with Trump in 2006 and 2007.

A spokesman for AMI added that the company will also publish five additional health and fitness columns by McDougal. "I'm really sorry for that".

The White House has denied that there was an affair.
