Pens beat Flyers, 5-0; Crosby surpasses Lemieux's postseason points record

НХЛ Вашингтон повторно уступил Коламбусу успехи Вегаса и Питтсбурга

Whatever rivalry existed between the Flyers and Penguins coming into this season was hardly recognizable in the four games played in Philadelphia (two regular season, two playoff), where the home team was outscored 20-4.

Sidney Crosby scored his fifth goal of the series and became the Pittsburgh Penguins' career postseason points leader in a 5-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night.

It was a little too much for rookie Nolan Patrick's still-narrow shoulders to bear, but he was the lone bright point for the Flyers in their horrid 5-0 loss to the Penguins in Game 4 of their opening-round series at the Wells Fargo Center. And in the process Crosby broke one of the more significant records in franchise history.

After a 7-0 Penguins rout in Game 1, it was tough to imagine how things could get worse for the Orange and Black. The Flyers are officially calling it a lower-body injury.

The second Penguins goal came as a huge deflation, following a fury of Flyers shots, chances and possession time in the Pittsburgh zone, an errant pass led to an odd-man rush that allowed Kessel to score after a flawless pass from Malkin.

For the first time in almost 30 years, the Flyers dropped Games 3 and 4 on home ice, and neither game was even remotely competitive.

Kris Letang's deflected wrister from the slot chased an overmatched Brian Elliott eight minutes into the second. Brian Elliott was replaced by Michal Neuvirth halfway through the game. Neuvirth was so baffled that he was looking right, while Crosby was on his left. Even with common core math, you can figure out that 2+ points a game is what you can expect from him every time he steps on the ice to face the Flyers.

Chicago Cubs star Anthony Rizzo makes huge Major League Baseball claim
The forecast for Wednesday calls for strong likelihood of rain around game time, changing to snow by late afternoon. The Cubs announced on Tuesday that first baseman Anthony Rizzo has been activated from the 10-day disabled list.

The Flyers had consecutive dominating shifts later in the period, swarming the net, keeping the puck in the Pittsburgh end, and firing shots at Murray.

"Somehow, we need to get our confidence back and go from there", team captain Claude Giroux said.

At the time the Penguins had a 2-0 lead and cutting it to one could have swayed the momentum going forward, but Murray came up big - as he tends to do in the post season.

"They came out hard", Andrew MacDonald said. The two dropped the gloves and fought in Game 3.

Philadelphia coach Dave Hakstol dismissed it as nothing unusual, but it shows that the Penguins' dominance over the Flyers this season hasn't been limited to their stars.

Crosby's on-point pass on the power play led to Evgeni Malkin's third goal of the playoff just 4:33 into the game. The Devils led until J.T. Miller and Kucherov scored about 3 1/2 minutes apart in the first period.
