Apple has been ordered to pay $500 million in iMessage patent suit

VirnetX shares surge as jury says Apple infringed patents: report

In February 2016, a second trial resulted in a $625 million verdict against Apple.

Apple this week was ordered to pay out $502.6 million in damages to the notorious patent-only entity, VirnetX, with whom the iPhone-maker has been entwined in a gruesome back-and forth legal dispute for the last six years or longer.

In October 2017, Apple was also ordered to pay over $439 million as its "VPN on Demand" feature and FaceTime were determined to violate VirnetX's patents. 7 million to VirnetX for encroaching on the patents of its four technologies apparently used in iOS applications as well as FaceTime. It isn't the first time a ruling in the case has gone against Apple.

The evidence was clear.

The case is now being reviewed by the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, which will determine whether or not VirnetX's patents are actually invalid.

Presently, Apple had once again made a decision to challenge the judgement of the US district court in the Federal Court of Texas.

Reports claim that the legal battle between Apple includes many legal suits and a myriad number of appeals.

For now, Apple's lawyers aren't commenting and VirnetX is celebrating a victory.

VirnetX, who has neither created nor marketed a single tangible product, is now in the process of appealing the aforementioned PTAB ruling, implying that though they were previously invalidated, the firm's patents still remain valid in the eyes of the court until further notice.
