Bloomberg US Confirms N. Korea's Offer to Talk Denuclearization

The North Korean leader discussed the "prospect of the DPRK-U.S. dialogue" as well as "strategic and tactical issues to be maintained" by the party, "including the future policy of global relations and the orientation corresponding to them", according to KCNA.

CNN reported Saturday that secret, direct talks paving the way for the summit were under way between North Korean and USA intelligence officials, citing anonymous White House sources.

On Sunday, a Trump administration official said that the "U.S. has confirmed that Kim Jong Un is willing to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", according to the Wall Street Journal.

Washington's long-held stance is that it will not accept a nuclear-armed North Korea.

The North's official media has thus far made virtually no mention of the series of stunning diplomatic overtures Kim has made toward Seoul and Washington since January, though it did trumpet Kim's visit to Beijing last month to meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The Wall Street Journal was first to report the news. Till three weeks ago, dilemma lingered over the first-ever meeting between Trump and Kim.

It added the country also supports the North Korean leadership's efforts to hold talks with the South and the United States, in line with the "roadmap" Moscow suggested on pursuing a peaceful, step-by-step approach to end the crisis.

Members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and members and alternate members of the Political Bureau of the C.C. attended Monday's meeting, while Cabinet vice premiers were also present as observers.

Mr Trump said on Monday that he expected to meet Mr Kim in May or early June, expressing hope that they would reach a deal on "denuking" the Korean peninsula.

"This should have been done by other presidents", Trump said. It is scheduled to take place without the months of groundwork that usually precedes such meetings. Hopefully it'll soon be considered a relationship that'so much diverse from it's been around for many, many decades.

This would be the first time a sitting U.S. President has met with a North Korean leader. That work has been led by Central Intelligence Agency Director Mike Pompeo, Trump's pick to become secretary of state. It followed reports from unnamed USA administration officials that the United States was in contact with North Korea in preparation for the talks. A State Department spokesman declined to comment.
