Robert Griffin III gets a surprising third chance

According to Ian Rapoport, the Baltimore Ravens have made a decision to sign Griffin to a one year deal as a backup role.

Griffin will compete for the backup job behind Flacco, replacing unrestricted free agent Ryan Mallett.

He will back up Joe Flacco in Baltimore, where the only other QB on the roster is Josh Woodrum, who has yet to play a snap in the NFL.

Griffin's last previous stop in an injury-riddled career came in 2016 with the Cleveland Browns. The former Baylor star won Offensive Rookie of the Year over Andrew Luck, throwing for 3,200 yards, 20 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 102.4 QB rating and adding 815 yards and seven running scores on the ground. I feel like we got a steal.

Griffin, 28, was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 draft. "He's a very talented quarterback", he said. Griffin returned to play the final four games and was the starting quarterback the last time the Browns won, against San Diego on December 24, 2016.

When last we saw Griffin on the field, he was one of the most inefficient quarterbacks in the NFL. He signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday night. "We felt like we needed another No. 2 quarterback".

Everything looked promising for Griffin until he suffered his first knee injury in the postseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. He will probably be here early next week to sign the deal, ' general manager Ozzie Newsome said.

"We're excited about it".

"I felt like he really wanted to be here, really wanted to be a Raven, felt like this was the place for him", Harbaugh said. But at this point, we just want him to stay healthy. I believe our players are going to love the fact that he's here. They like him as a person.

"It just wasn't the right fit and I had to make that decision for myself to say, 'Look, if I don't accept this offer, there's a chance I won't play football this year, '" Griffin said.
