Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Wedding Will Include 250 Special Guests

Meghan Markle visits Belfast Nothern Ireland

More than 100,000 visitors are expected in Windsor, west of London, for the wedding of Prince Harry and USA actress Meghan Markle on May 19, police said on Thursday. This will make it one of the biggest operations in the force's history.

Local businesses and visitors "can expect to see an increased police presence" ahead of the wedding including armed police, search dogs and helicopters, the police said.

Residents will notice more CCTV cameras, extra technology to recognise number plates and "hostile vehicle mitigation barriers" to protect pedestrians from terror attack by cars or heavy duty vehicles. There will also be a range of security measures not visible to the public.

Though the tradition isn't as strict as the Queen's eating rule (according to The Sun, Prince Charles will eat shellfish whenever and wherever he wants), Markle's soon-to-be grandma is reportedly a huge fan of the tradition, so it'll likely stay in place during her wedding.

British Transport Police will be patrolling railway stations and carriages linking other regions with the town of Windsor.

Windsor will become a virtual fortress, with each route into the town subject to careful searches, with visitors walking through scanners, expected to show the contents of their bags, and discouraged from bringing tents.

The force said people "should be reassured and not alarmed" and that measures were "part of our measures to keep people safe".

"We are located right opposite Windsor Castle, and with the up and coming wedding being held there we thought a royal gin would be a great addition to our existing 100 gins", says Emma Stevenson, who works in marketing at Oak Taverns, who operates The Queen Charlotte in Windsor.

On May 19, visitors to Windsor might be stopped and checked by roads policing officers.
