Rare Ditches Its Sea of Thieves 'Death Tax' Idea

Chime in: Should Microsoft be allowed to force Windows 10 users to use Edge?

First, a little background for those who are unfamiliar with the way death works in Sea of Thieves.

Rare's awareness of issues surrounding the game suggests that living a vicarious pirate's life will only become more fun as Sea of Thieves evolves. At the moment, dying isn't much of an inconvenience - when you kick the bucket, you're forced to wait on a ghost ship for a small amount of time, after which you're teleported back to your ship (assuming it's still floating) alive and well, ready to continue the fight.

Another problem with forcing players to pay gold upon a death is that it would deter them from exploring or experimenting.

After a lot of negative feedback on the death tax Rare made a decision to not implement it after all, as announced in a post on their official site. Developer Rare is now killing off one of those brainstormed gameplay changes before it comes to pass, canceling a planned "death cost" after intense fan feedback. But this so-called "Death Tax" proved unpopular with numerous game's most dedicated players across Reddit and other forums.

Black Panther is now the top-grossing superhero film of all time
The film earned praise for its progressive values, mostly black cast, sympathetic portrayal of African cultures, and performances. By April, then, Black Panther will probably pass Spider-Man: Homecoming's Chinese box office gross of $116.2 million.

This caused a huge outcry and I was one of them.

Okay, so as part of a future Sea of Thieves update Rare was looking to implement what was being dubbed a "Death Cost".

In the post, Neate also highlighted the main issues Rare has come across with Sea of Thieves now it is up and running, picking up especially on player griefing: "We are very aware of the topic of persistent player griefing (repeatedly being attacked by the same ships or players)".

So, if you were anxious that you were going to start losing gold each time you die, you can take a sigh of relief. New players are going to see the biggest impact. Stay tuned for our review later this week.
