President Donald Trump says Saudi Arabia has been a great friend to the United States and is a "great purchaser" and "investor" in its economy.

During an interview with 60 Minutes, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman accused Iran of hosting and supporting al-Qaeda leaders, including Osama Bin Laden's son, who is the new leader of the terrorist outfit.

Commenting over the meeting, Marwan Bishara, a senior political commentator said, "On the political level, the American president is trying to sell the crown prince to the American public, when Saudi Arabia's image is really bad".

The trio Gulf countries namely Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic and trade ties with their neighboring country, Qatar on June 5, 2017, accusing Qatar of lending support to "terrorism".

"This is a signal that there [are] a lot of things [that] could be tackled in the close future and more opportunities".

The crown prince is also due to meet with members of the U.S. Congress, some of whom have been critical of the Saudi campaign in Yemen, particularly the humanitarian situation and civilian casualties.

But since his rise to power past year, Mohammed bin Salman, or MBS, has been a controversial figure.

During his two and a half week sojourn to US, Saudi Crown Prince MBS will also travel to New York, Boston, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Houston to cultivate investments.

Welcoming the Saudi prince in the White House on Tuesday shows Trump's support for MBS as heir of King Salman, who has introduced radical reforms in the conservative country, like empowering women, allowing cinemas, etc.

"We're going to see what happens", Trump said when asked about either changing or scrapping the nuclear deal.

While in Washington, the crown prince is holding separate meetings with a long roster of influential US officials, including the secretaries of defense, treasury and commerce, the Central Intelligence Agency director and congressional leaders from both parties.

After discussing the arms sales, Trump suggested that the United States could soon extricate itself from Middle East conflicts after years of involvement in Iraq and Syria.

According to the Post, Trump wants billions worth of job-creating Saudi investment in the US. The two are similar in age - Kushner is 37, while MBS is 32 - and the Trump aide sees the prince as a key ally in curbing Iran.

Discussion focused on means of developing trade cooperation and technology development between Saudi Arabia and the United States.

As they talked, USA senators debated a resolution seeking an end to US support for Saudi Arabia's campaign in Yemen's civil war, in which about 10,000 people have been killed.
