One dead in blast targeting security convoy in Egypt's Alexandria

Sisi is the only choice for voters in Egypt's impoverished south

At least one person was killed in a bomb blast in Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria on Saturday, according to the country's interior ministry.

The attack unsuccessfully targeted the city's security chief while he was travelling in a convoy, the Interior Ministry was cited as saying by Efe news.

The bomb, which was planted under a vehicle, went off when the auto of Alexandria's security commander passed by, the ministry said.

The body of the policeman and the four wounded, whose identity was not disclosed, were transported to a military hospital in the city, said spokesman of the Ministry of Health Khaled Megahed in a statement.

The Islamic State terror organization claimed responsibility for both attacks.

The bombing comes just days before President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi faces the head of the Ghad Party Moussa Moustafa Moussa in the presidential election.

Prosecutor General Nabil Sadek ordered an "urgent and wide inquiry".

It has also killed scores of members of Egypt's minority Coptic Christian community in church bombings and shootings.
