White House looking to expand legal team amid Russian Federation inquiry

President Donald Trump is in talks to add a high-profile Washington lawyer to the White House legal team to help respond to the special counsel's Russian Federation probe, reported The New York Times and Reuters.

Ty Cobb, a White House lawyer who had been leading Trump's response to the inquiry, has been predicting that special counsel Robert Mueller III's probe is nearly over. Cobb has told friends that he expects to leave the White House relatively soon, according to The Times.

President Donald Trump attacked New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman as a "flunky" of Hillary Clinton in a tweet on Sunday, claiming she knows nothing about him and "is not given access".

Flood now works with law firm Williams & Connolly, and represented Bill Clinton during the Democrat's impeachment proceedings in 1998 amid the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

His main duties of providing documents to Mueller's investigators and arranging interviews with White House witnesses have largely been completed.

Trump also appeared to take issue with a Times story this weekend that stated he has twice backed failed candidates and that his support for Rich Saccone in Pennsylvania's special House race this week, if Saccone loses, would "mark the third time Mr. Trump has thrown his political might behind a candidate without success". Flood declined to comment. One White House adviser said Flood could also be considered for the job of White House counsel. Wrong. I am VERY happy with my lawyers, John Dowd, Ty Cobb and Jay Sekulow.

In response to the report, Trump tweeted Sunday that he wasn't adding another lawyer to "help out" and accused the Times of intentionally writing a "false story". "They are doing a great job". Marc Kasowitz, a NY litigator with a combative reputation who had represented Trump in business disputes, was replaced as head of Trump's personal legal team by John M. Dowd, who had deeper Washington experience. A representative for the White House did not immediately respond to HuffPost's request for comment.
