YouTube sued for limiting white, Asian male hires for diversity purposes

Cyclist rides past Google sign

As the needle failed to move on the share of black and Hispanic engineers, frustration intensified toward an industry that wants to influence the globe, but can't change itself.

A lawsuit alleges Google set hiring quotas for some technical positions.

What's more, Wilberg pointed to an email from YouTube staffing manager Allison Alogna which read: "Hi Team: Please continue with L3 candidates in process and only accept new L3 candidates that are from historically underrepresented groups".

Wilberg claimed that he and other recruiters were uncomfortable with the hiring practice and even claimed that recruiters felt senior managers were talking about African-American employees like "we were talking about Black slaves as slave traders on a ship".

What do you think of Wilberg's lawsuit? It goes on to say how Wilberg received high marks for his performance as a recruiter until he began pushing back against Google in its diverse workforce hiring practices in 2017.

The complaint paints recruiters inside Google as desperate to "manage the public relations problems" arising from the lack of women and underrepresented minorities.

The scheme, aimed at women empowerment, will provide scooters to working women at a subsidized rate of upto 50 percent. The Prime Minister said his government had given Rs 1.8 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu under the 14th Finance Commission.

"We have a clear policy to hire candidates based on their merit, not their identity", a representative from Google told the Journal in a statement. "Beginning of Q3--we hire for 2018-all diverse", a company memo told recruiters a year ago, according to Wilberg. California labor law prohibits refusing to hire employees based on characteristics like race or gender.

The Google diversity hiring wars rage on. In the meantime, Google has to walk a narrow line: How can the company signal the urgency of being inclusive without setting targets?

Google has been stung by a number of lawsuits recently.

Wilberg said he was sacked after he complained to the HR department about the tech giant's hiring practices. Perhaps it was an attempt to foster inclusivity, but candidates would not find that ratio reflected if they joined Google. One of her co-workers, she said in the suit, slapped her across the face while he was intoxicated; another allegedly messaged her asking for a "horizontal hug".

According to Bloomberg, Arne Wilberg worked at Google for nine years as both an employee and contractor. Miley tweeted. "Save me the dogwhistle lawsuits and fake indignation". The lawsuit, filed in January in California's San Mateo County Superior Court, claims Wilberg was sacked by Google in retaliation for complaining to human resources about the company's hiring practices, the news agency reported.

Another former Google employee is suing Google for wrongful termination. They then mentioned that Google's racial and gender preferences in hiring were not up for debate, because this was morally and economically the best thing to do for Google.
