Olympics history was made in South Korea on Wednesday when two American athletes became the first to score a gold medal for the U.S.in cross-country skiing.

In her last Olympics, Kikkan Randall and her teammates pulled off a stunning upset to bring home Olympic Gold in the women's team sprint race.

Sweden took silver and Norway finished with a bronze, which allowed Bjoergen to secure her record 14th medal in the Winter Games.

Randall and Diggins snared gold by a nose, with Diggins sprinting to the finish 0.19 seconds ahead of the Swedish team of Charlotte Kalla and Stina Nilsson, with whom they had been dueling for the entire race. Team USA had been hoping that the cross-country drought would finally break; instead, it continued.

Afton skier Jessie Diggins has helped win the first Olympic gold medal in women's cross-country skiing at the Pyeongchang Games.

Has Prime Minister Abe Fallen into North Korea's Olympic Propaganda Trap?
The story described Jong as North Korea's equivalent to Ivanka Trump and suggested she had "struck a chord" with the public. However, he stressed that no incentive was being offered to get Pyongyang to come to the table.

They had previously teamed up in 2013, when they won the world championship in the team sprint event.

Diggins, ranked third in the world, also has three fifth-place finishes and one sixth in PyeongChang.

"It feels unreal; I can't believe it just happened", Diggins said. "I'm very, very happy for Jessie and Kikkan today taking a gold medal", Bjorgen said.

Randall may have been the underdog for many years, but the confidence of Diggins at these Games has ushered in a new era for the sport in America.

The decades-long Olympic medal hunt is over for the U.S. Cross Country team.
