AT&T Selects Three Cities To Roll Out Its 5G Services First

AT&T to roll out mobile 5G network in Dallas, Atlanta and Waco, Texas, by the end of this year

Rangan said device makers will likely debut the first smartphones for 5G in 2019 and 2020. "Our mobile 5G firsts will put our customers in the middle of it all".

"Ultimately, we expect to reach theoretical peak speeds of multiple gigabits per second on devices through mobile 5G", the company wrote in a Wednesday blog post.

Again, AT&T said back in January that they would have 5G in up to a dozen markets before the end of the year. The lab also has an outdoor 5G testbed to trial 5G apps and real-world use cases. Awhile back we got the news that AT&T would be offering up 5G services soon and today the word comes down that AT&T 5G Is Coming To Dallas, Atlanta, Waco In 2018. Beyond Waco, the only cities the mobile giant had yet announced were Dallas and Atlanta.

Though the USA government may not be particularly interested in running their own 5G network, traditional cell providers certainly are.

As the company notes, though, 5G isn't just about higher speeds; it is also about lower latency to support applications such as connected cars, the Internet of Things and augmented and virtual reality.

"We're committed to learning how 5G technologies can help transform businesses".

AT&T has recently posted a press release about its plan to offer 5G to consumers in a number of cities in the US. Eventually the technology will be deployed on additional spectrum bands.

Telecommunications experts estimate that 5G speeds will be about 10 times faster than 4G, which is presently the mobile standard.
