Jackson, Ohio Middle School Student Shoots Himself

All four elementary schools in the district were closed and all extracurricular activities were canceled for the day.

Police say that at this time, they do not believe other students were involved in the shooting but that authorities are still conducting an ongoing investigation.

A school official in OH says a middle school student apparently shot himself after bringing a gun to school. The high school in the neighboring area was being evacuated.

The unidentified student has been hospitalized at Akron Children's after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Tuesday morning.

Authorities say they found "distractionary-type" devices in his backpack at Jackson Memorial Middle School. Students were released to their parents following the incident.

Police are investigating how the student obtained the gun and how he brought it into the building.

If you are a middle or high school parent, the district says their website will have information on student changes in the coming months. "All the students within the school are safe".
