Google Home can now read audiobooks to you

The Google Play store is now selling audiobooks

It's been a long time coming, but audiobooks have finally made their way to Google Play, with Google today adding the new category to its digital store.

Google has just launched an audiobook store in 45 different countries and nine different languages.

While Amazon dominates the USA audiobooks market, Google's major advantage is that its service is available in 45 countries, according to James McQuivey, VP at research firm Forrester. They are also compatible with all the eligible Google Assistant-supported devices like Google Home smart speakers. Google has officially started selling Audiobooks on the Google Play. With the help of these audiobooks, users can ask the Google Assistant to read out their books. Google's Audiobooks are available for Web users and as well as for users of Android and iOS-based smartphones and tablets.

Social Engineering to the People: Facebook Asks Users to Rank Media Credibility
Zuckerberg also announced a new initiative to survey Facebook users to have them determine the credibility of news sources. But, sooner or later, Facebook is going to have to get comfortable with making those hard decisions.

Audiobooks are generally priced between $7 and $15 but Google is offering discounts, in addition to 50 percent off on your first audiobook, reports said. You will need an Android device though, if you want to play the audioboos via Google Assistant.

To start listening to audiobooks on Google's smart speaker, purchase a title first, of course. If you're one to leave your phone at home, using Bluetooth headphones with your smartwatch, you'll now be able to do that with audiobooks instead of just music. But in reality, the beef between the two internet giants does not seem to be letting up, especially now that Google is getting into the audiobook business. While Apple has a stronghold on their App store and doesn't approve apps so easily, Google is much more lenient in this regard. Additional commands such as "who is the author" and "stop playing in 20 minutes" are also available (see the complete list of commands here). The introduction of audiobooks at Google Play brings with it an easier way for those in the Google ecosystem to enjoy their favorite reads in a seamless way across devices. One thing that the company does offer, however, is Android Wear support.
