The last time the federal government shut down for more than two weeks in October 2013, popular destinations in the Mother Lode like Yosemite National Park and New Melones Reservoir were shuttered, and the economies of towns that feed off the tourism they generate grinded to a halt.

At one park in Fayette Co., visitors were greeted with confusion followed by disappointment at the Canyon Rim visitor's center at the New River Gorge Bridge, Sunday, when they discovered some of the park's features were closed.

Some Glacier National Park areas are accessible, however, access may change without notice, and there are no NPS-provided services.

Elsewhere, Yellowstone National Park remained opened, but across the country in NY, the nation's most famous monuments to immigration - the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island - were closed. Refuge staff will not be posting to social media sites.

Emergency response will be available, but limited with the Teton Interagency Dispatch Center available from 6 10 p.m. Teton County Dispatch will continue to answer emergency calls outside those hours.
