How Google's 'speed update' will affect mobile search

Google Will Again Prioritize Faster Sites in Mobile Search

Google has been pushing faster websites in Search for a long while now.

Speaking of mobile overtaking desktop, the changes mentioned above, which are obviously focused on improving mobile-based experience, are critical steps for Google, if only because more people are using smartphones than computers nowadays for basic features, most especially a quick search query.

In July 2018, Google will begin considering page speed when ranking mobile search results. That is, unless the page is so relevant that not including it in the results would be a disservice to the user, Google said in a blog post today.

If you thought Minecraft was the best thing for kids on the Switch, get ready for Nintendo to (once again) blow your mind. Each differently shaped block is detected by the IR Motion Camera on the Right Joy-Con inserted on top of the House.

Google said the "Speed Update" applies the same standard to all webpages regardless of the technology they're built on. The most important consideration will remain the intent of the user's search, which means a slow page may still rank high if the content is considered most relevant.

Though Google says the change will only affect a small number of searches, it could incentivize more sites to adopt the company's Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), stripped-down versions of web pages that load very quickly.

Developers are encouraged to think broadly about how performance affects a user's experience of their page and to consider a variety of user experience metrics. For sites that are not in the Chrome User Experience Report data set, we recommend using Lighthouse to evaluate the performance of a page. In this example, since users from Search would be seeing an AMP page, the speed of the AMP page would be taken into account.
