Palestinian protesters clash with Israeli security forces on the eastern outskirts of Gaza City near the border with Israel

Tensions between Palestine and the US have spiralled since US President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel's capital in December.

"We will not accept what the U.S. is going to propose to us and will not accept its mediation after its Jerusalem crime, but we will accept only an worldwide mediation in the peace process with a goal to end the occupation", he said, adding that "we will get engaged in any serious peace talks under United Nations auspices to end the occupation".

The majority of the global community, including the United Kingdom, have their embassies in Tel Aviv as the Palestinians regard East Jerusalem as the capital of their state.

He said: "Jerusalem was removed from the table by a tweet of Mr Trump".

US State Department spokesman Steve Goldstein told in a briefing in Washington on Thursday that US funding for UNRWA was still under consideration and that no decision had yet been made.

He said that the UN Security Council passed 86 resolutions in favor of Palestine, in spite of 43 United States vetoes and 705 UN General Assembly resolutions throughout the worldwide body's history but none were implemented.

Abbas' address had been seen as an opportunity to chart a Palestinian course forward in the light of Trump's announcement last month on Jerusalem. "On the phone? On television?"

Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) speaks during a meeting with members of the Central Committee in the PA capital city of Ramallah on January 14, 2018.

"We will not accept what the going to propose to us and will not accept its mediation after its Jerusalem crime, but we will accept only an global mediation in the peace process with a goal to end the occupation", he said, according to WAFA.

He singled out two individuals for particular criticism: "The American ambassador to Israel [David Friedman] and [the US Ambassador to the UN] Nikki Haley bring shame on the administration, if it has any self-respect".

"I am saying that Oslo, there is no Oslo", Abbas said, referring to the agreements that led to the creation of the Palestinian Authority and envisioned a final resolution to the conflict. He also hinted at less than full-hearted support from regional countries more interested in normalizing ties with Israel, and he lambasted Hamas, the Palestinian faction that controls Gaza, for not turning up at the meeting.
