Netanyahu will spend a day in Ahmedabad, a sort of personal day out with PM Narendra Modi, including a visit to Gandhi Ashram. The foundations for the current growth trajectory were laid during both Congress and BJP administrations, working with Israeli leadership and with diaspora and community organisations in the United States and elsewhere, including the American Jewish Committee (AJC)-an organisation that for more than a quarter-century has advocated and celebrated closer India-US and India-Israel ties. "Sometimes it is India that comes to Israel with a request and sometimes Israel comes to India with a request".

While the relationship between Israel and India has flowered under Modi's BJP government-with a refreshing and exhilarating lack of ambivalence-it must be remembered that it was under Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao of the Congress party that formal bilateral ties were established. "Ultimately. we would like to see improved ties translate to support in worldwide forums", he said, conceding that it "takes some time for improved relations to be expressed on the global front".

Netanyahu's visit will exemplify the joint commitment to boost and diversify economic ties. "So the optics are strong from the get-go". The date and place of a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be agreed on in the near future, a source in the Israeli embassy in Moscow told TASS on Friday. In the capital, Mr Netanyahu will pay a visit to the presidential palace, preside over a meeting of Indian and Israeli businessmen and inaugurate the Raisina Dialogue, a three-day foreign policy forum convened by ORF.

Meanwhile, Israeli Ambassador to India Daniel Carmon on Friday had downplayed India's stand at the UN General Assembly over the U.S. decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in place of Tel Aviv, saying New Delhi's view "cannot influence" Indo-Israel ties.

He will also reach out to Bollywood in an exclusive "Shalom Bollywood" event, which is one of the itineraries. Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. won almost $2 billion in contracts from India a year ago alone. Defence infrastructure plays a large part in this.
