Obama tops Trump as most admired, Gallup poll of Americans finds

U.S. President Donald Trump points to a large Merry Christmas card on the stage as he arrives to deliver remarks on tax reform in St. Louis Missouri

As was to be expected, Trump won among Republicans with 35% of GOP members polled naming him the man they admire most while Obama nabbed praise from 39% of Democrats polled.

However, the website said Pres. Donald Trump's "unpopularity is holding him back from winning the most admired distinction".

For the 10th year in a row, Americans have voted Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton as the man and woman living anywhere in the world who they admire most, according to a recent Gallup poll.

Nine percent of participants said they most admired Clinton, which was a decline from her 12% rating a year ago. Clinton narrowly topped Michelle Obama 9 to 7 percent. A Gallup poll released earlier this month showed the share of US adults holding a favorable opinion of Clinton had dropped to 36 percent, a new low. Pope Francis took third place with 3 percent of respondents, and the rest of the top dozen men included politicians, religious figures and billionaires.

Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, is the most admired woman for the 16th year in a row.

Kulbhushan Jadhav's kin to meet him today
Pakistan has repeatedly denied India consular access to Jadhav on the ground that it was not applicable in cases related to spies. India, however, maintains that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he had business interests after retiring from the Navy.

Still, it's the 22nd time Clinton's been rated the most admired woman - more than any other man or woman ever on the list. One percent of those surveyed named first lady Melania Trump their most admired woman, bringing her name into the top tier for the first time.

Both Obama and Clinton have topped the respective lists for the past decade. The next winningest woman is Eleanor Roosevelt, at 13 times.

However, Gallup is uncertainly whether she'll continue to come out on top. "However, retaining that stature may be more challenging in coming years with her political career likely over".

Gallup said its poll was conducted from December 4 to December 11 with a random sample of 1,049 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 USA states and the District of Columbia.
