France Cautious Over US 'Evidence' On Iran Weaponry In Yemen

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley delivers a speech during a United Nations Security Council meeting

Standing before an exhausted missile that Washington says was made in Iran, shipped to Yemen and fired at Riyadh's worldwide airport, Nikki Haley, the American ambassador to the United Nations, declassified the USA government's findings of Iran's military activities in the region on Thursday, warning of its rapid expansion and broad ambitions. From missiles to drones to explosive boats, illegal Iranian arms shipments to the Houthis and other proxies are stoking the fires of sectarian violence endangering civilians, noted the statement.

The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Yemen welcomed the UN report on Iran's hostile interventions and support of the Houthi terrorist militias and called for confronting Tehran's threats.

The US yesterday revealed evidence which it says proves Iran is supplying Yemen's Houthis with weapons which are used to attack Saudi Arabia. "It's hard to find a terrorist group in the Middle East that does not have Iran's fingerprints all over it".

The Iranian top diplomat likened Halley's presentation Thursday to former US Secretary of State Colin Powell's claim in 2003 that Iraq possessed WMD.

"We have said everything doesn't have to be tied to the nuclear deal, but it does have to be tied to the security council resolutions".

"Part of the president's strategy is to clearly show how Iran continues to defy the worldwide community by violating United Nations resolutions", Seal said.

Resolution 2231, which enshrined the landmark nuclear deal with world powers, calls on Iran not to undertake activities related to missiles capable of delivering nuclear bombs, including launches using such technology.

Haley said Thursday that a missile fired by Huthi militants at Saudi Arabia last month had been made in Iran. The US will now rally other nations to push back on Iran's behavior, she added.

The presentation didn't come with any specific evidence that the missile was of Iranian-origin, and indeed Yemen has insisted since the firing, it was a missile of their own design. "The US is acting today in the spirit of transparency and worldwide cooperation that is necessary to defeat this threat".

AFP reported that a separate team of United Nations experts who inspected the missile fragments during a visit to Riyadh last month found a possible link to an Iranian manufacturer, the Shahid Bagheri Industrial Group, which is on the United Nations sanctions blacklist.

"Following a series of baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran in the past 10 months, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations once again today took the same line accusing the Iranian government of supplying the missile that hit Saudi Arabia on 4 November - an accusation that we categorically reject as unfounded and, at the same time, irresponsible, provocative and destructive".

The experts, who report to the sanctions committee, found a component marked by a logo similar to that of the banned group, which is a subsidiary of the Iranian Aerospace Industries Organization.
