'Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery' role-playing game announced for mobile

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is expected to free for users, but the adventure will only continue if the player makes in-app purchases.

It has been claimed that you'll be in the shoes of a new witch or wizard starting at Hogwarts - you'll progress through the years like Harry and the team, taking part in magical lessons including Defence against the Dark Arts and Potions with iconic Hogwarts teachers at the helm. The game takes place in the 1980s - which in the Harry Potter timeline means it is set well before Harry, Ron, Hermione and their classmates began their studies - but it will feature such characters as Dumbledore, Hagrid and Professor Snape. In 2018, the studio will release the second of five planned Fantastic Beasts spinoffs.

While the action of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will be carried out within the game itself.

If we had to guess, we'd say that this game is going to be a simplified experience created to appeal to the various age brackets that make up Harry Potter's global fanbase.

The people over at Botnik Studio fed a computer's algorithmic tool with all of the original novels from Harry Potter's saga, and in return, it generated a three-page chapter titled "Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash". But there will be no Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, or Hermione Granger to greet them. Because of that, Jam City doesn't have to wait for warmer weather to launch their game as Niantic must do for Wizards Unite. Surely, we will be back with more detailed news about Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

One of the best things to come out of this whole already-amazing experience is Elsa Chang's gorgeous depiction of one of the more puzzling passages, which she tweeted in response to Botnik's spellbinding fantasy. You might want to hold your hippogriffs before getting too excited though, because the new story is as terrible as finding a bogey flavor in your Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans box - but just as amusing as seeing a friend do the same thing. Basically, the world is on the brink of anarchy and you must fight through it.

The Spec-Ops missions are extremely fun too, and great for wasting time. This game is a must download, especially those with a controller or NVIDIA Shield.
