Lake-effect snow season ramps up over Great Lakes

Forecast Lake snow for parts of CNY late tonight into Sunday

Some parts of Northeast Ohio could see over a foot of snow.

The National Weather Service says winter storm watches are in effect from Monday night into Wednesday morning for the region stretching from NY southwest corner to the Vermont border.

A stronger wave will plow through later Monday evening and early on Tuesday, with maybe an inch or so of snow in the southern counties.

East of Lake Ontario, with its broader fetch and more favorable wind direction, higher accumulations are in the cards.

This next system will bring another shot of widespread snow to the region, with a general 2 to 6 inches expected to fall between Monday night and Tuesday.

Accumulation of more than 10 inches are possible over that period in southern Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus and Wyoming counties.

Based on the Post's story, the email led to already public information, as WikiLeaks had posted the hacked content a day earlier. Editorial guidelines weren't followed in that instance, said the network when asked why it had taken such drastic measures.

Snow should ease in Buffalo and the Niagara Frontier after lunch Tuesday as winds shift out of the north.

Regardless of the track of the clipper system Monday night and Tuesday, we will have to deal with an Arctic air mass (temperatures in the teens and low 20s), gusty winds and some lake snow Tuesday night into Wednesday night/early Thursday.

The clipper system coupled with lake-effect snow that will kick up late Monday night will lead to several inches of snow across the area, especially near Lake Michigan.

In addition to the snow, the coldest air of the season is forecast Tuesday in the Great Lakes from Chicago to Detroit.

More snow for western NY is on the way starting tonight and into tomorrow.
