YouTube reportedly launching its Music Service in March

Apple Music kaboom

If you love to have such a platform from where you can explore all the videos of your favourite artists and other music, YouTube is launching its Music Service platform very soon.

Google Play Music launched in 2011, and YouTube Red video just past year, but this would be YouTube's first real attempt at their own music streaming subscription service since 2014's YouTube Music Key (which would turn into YouTube Red). It's attempted three such services in the past, including Google Play Music, YouTube Music Key, and YouTube Red, none of which have gained much traction. Instead of being a service dedicated to music, the paid streaming service by YouTube has been focused mainly on original video content.

The service will allow YouTube to compete better with Apple Music and Spotify.

YouTube is referring to this music streaming service internally as Remix and is said to include the on-demand streaming as in Spotify along with the YouTube-only elements such as video clips.

The display language for the music streaming service will be available in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Japanese. The music service will help raise revenue for music labels. Warner Music Group has already reportedly signed on, and talks are underway with Sony, Universal and Merlin (a conglomerate of independent labels). YouTube has reached out to artists to seek their help in promoting the new service, one of the people said. Music is one of the most popular genres of video on YouTube, which attracts more than a billion users a month. Not only has YouTube been trying to negotiate new deals with Universal and Sony for more than a year, but it also has a talks with Vevo looming early next year. However, a launch date in March will remain largely dependent on the other two major companies. Lyor Cohen, formerly of Warner Music Group, has been acting as a liaison to the industry and overseeing the project.
