Time for US Military Families to Leave S. Korea: Sen. Lindsey Graham

China is North Korea's only significant ally, but it has grown increasingly frustrated over the North's nuclear and missile tests that have brought a threat of war and chaos to China's northeastern border.

In an editorial on Sunday, North Korea's ruling party Rodong newspaper said the US-South Korea drill was "an open, all-out provocation" and that it "may lead to a nuclear war at any moment".

The statement came after Yonhap News reported that six US Raptor stealth fighters planes arrived in South Korea on Saturday for a joint air drill named "Vigilant Ace" scheduled for December 4 to 8. On Wednesday, 29 November, the North fired the long-range missile which flew about 950kms and touched an altitude of 4,475kms during the almost hour-long flight before hitting the sea waters off the Japan coast.

Although North Korea has rejected accusations of such abuses, a 2014 United Nations report said North Korean security chiefs, possibly including the country's leader, Kim Jong Un, should face justice for overseeing a state-controlled system of Nazi-style atrocities.

Graham's remarks echoed those of McMaster, who told a security forum in Washington on Saturday that the potential for war with North Korea "is increasing every day".

The missile is said to have flown almost 2,800 miles high and for a distance of more than 600 miles.

Throughout the training about 12,000 personnel will demonstrate wartime defenses and airstrikes on mock North Korean nuclear and missile targets.

The Rodong Sinmun commentary said the aerial wargames show "the enemies' moves to start a nuclear war have reached a unsafe stage".

"What matters is the fact that the drill simulating an actual war is to be staged at a time when insane President Trump is running wild", a commentary carried by the official Korean Central News Agency said.

"We are in a race to be able to solve this problem", Mr McMaster said. Every missile test, every underground test of a nuclear weapon, means the marriage is more likely.

"I would need to see a bit more differences to fully believe they made this themselves", Dave Schmerler, a research associate at the James Martin Centre for Nonproliferation Studies, said of the launch transport vehicle.

"But what we want to do is convince others, it is in their interest to do more", McMaster said.
