Palestinian shot dead by Israeli settler in West Bank

In October, a seven-year-old Palestinian girl was hospitalised after settlers threw stones at her family's vehicle in the occupied city.

One of the settlers then opened fire, striking a stone thrower.

During the hike, which was celebrating the barmitzvah of one of the children, the group walked near the Palestinian village of Qusra, located near Nablus, according to reports.

A Palestinian villager was shot dead by an Israeli settler in a clash in the West Bank on Thursday morning.

The BBC's Tom Bateman in Jerusalem says tensions between settlers and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank have been on the rise.

One of the Israeli escorts suffered a light head wound during the incident. Another sustained an injury to one of his arms, according to the Magen David Adom ambulance service. They were both taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. Medics also treated the wounded.

During the clash, some of the hikers holed up in a cave south of Qusra.

"After an hour-and-a-half, the soldiers arrived".

"The detainees have since been referred to investigation by the security forces", the statement read. Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said forces were searching for the suspect who fled the scene.

The Israel Defence Forces said the father shot at Odeh in "self-defense". "Our lives were in danger, as [the Palestinians] threw rocks and boulders at us", he said. The army added that after the incident the hikers sought refuge in a nearby cave until soldiers came to assist them.

The Samaria Regional Council said in a statement that there were approximately 100 Palestinians who attacked the group of children and parents. Several isolated hard-line settlements are in the area, situated near Palestinian villages and Nablus.
