UCLA To Appoint Chip Kelly As Head Coach

Report: Chip Kelly not coming to the SEC as Florida moves on, eyes Central Florida's Scott Frost

After firing Jim Mora, the Bruins beat out a host of suitors, most notably Florida, to land Kelly.

The former OR and National Football League head coach is finalizing an agreement to become the next coach at UCLA, Yahoo Sports' Pete Thamel tweeted on Saturday, with a deal expected to be reached "by the end of the weekend". The Bruins fired coach Jim Mora on Sunday and immediately jumped into the Kelly sweepstakes.

Love it or hate it, Chip Kelly and college football go hand and hand.

UCLA announced the move with a video that said Kelly is ushering in a "new era" in Westwood.

The jury remains out on whether Kelly can overtake USC and aid in UCLA becoming a top-tier program in Los Angeles but, if he can't do it, there is every reason to believe that most could not. Kelly agreed to a five-year contract worth $23.3M with a $9M reciprocal buyout.

Frost is widely expected to be a candidate to replace current Huskers coach Mike Riley if he is fired, but squashed rumors that he had already negotiated a deal with Nebraska last week.

With Florida and Kelly no longer a possibility, UCLA is the increasingly likely new destination for the former coach of the Oregon Ducks - if Kelly returns to coaching. His high-powered and high-paced offense helped lead the Ducks to a 46-7 record and multiple bowls in 4 years. In his four seasons in Eugene, Kelly became the first coach in school history to guide the program to three consecutive undisputed conference championships (2009-11) and its first three 12-win seasons (2010-12).

Kelly spent four years at OR, leading them to a bowl game all four years. The former Oregon Ducks coach now is an analyst with ESPN.
