PV Sindhu in Hong Kong Open quarterfinals

P.V. Sindhu will face Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon in the semi-final. Ratchanok beat Canada’s Michelle Li 21-14 21-16 on Friday

PV Sindhu came out with a stupendous performance to oust Japanese fifth seed Akane Yamaguchi and enter the women's singles semi-finals of the $400,000 Hong Kong Open Superseries badminton tournament on Friday. Sindhu, who slipped a place in the latest world rankings, released yesterday, will face another Japanese player in the form of Akane Yamaguchi in the next round.

It would not be an easy target for the Indian shuttler to defeat former world no. 1 Intanon who enjoys an upper hand over Sindhu.

While, in the second game, Sindhu had to fight hard to ensure a win for herself as the Japanese was leading initially and was just few points away to push the match into a decider.

In contrast to Sindhu, former champion Saina Nehwal laboured to her first round win.

In another semi-final, world number one Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan will take on third seed Sung Ji-hyun of South Korea.
