AC/DC Guitarist Malcolm Young is Dead at 64

AC DC co-founder & rock icon Malcolm Young dies aged 64

Malcolm Young, the guitarist, died at his home at the age of 64 years.

"Renowned for his musical prowess, Malcolm was a songwriter, guitarist, performer, producer and visionary who inspired many", the statement said.

Angus Young may have received a bunch of attention as lead guitar on his on-stage antics, but make no mistake that a big part of AC/DC's sound is thanks to Malcolm Young's chugging, powerful rhythm guitar. "As a brother, it is hard for me to say with words what he has meant in my life".

"He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever", the band said. Malcolm suffered from alcoholism in the late 1980s and missed much of the "Blow Up Your Video" tour, but became sober and rejoined the band, remaining until his illness forced him to leave officially in 2014. "Malcolm, job well done".

Forever and always, we salute you, Malcolm.

Stars and music legends took to social media to share their condolences and pay tribute to the rock icon.

"It is a sad day in rock and roll", van Halen wrote. "Malcolm was the heart and soul of AC/DC and as fine an example as any to rhythm guitarists everywhere".

The members of AC/DC were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. For the first time I'd seen him disorganized, being confused about a lot of things.

Malcolm is survived by his wife O'Linda, children Cara and Ross, three grandchildren, a sister and a brother, the band said.

Young, along with his brother Angus, founded the legendary rock band in 1975 in Australia. Well-wishes can be sent to the family via a special memorial website, which will be available next week. What was your favourite song?
