Cowboys' Elliott withdraws appeal of six-game ban

Dallas Cowboys NFL football star Ezekiel Elliott walks out of federal court Thursday Nov. 9 2017 in New York. Elliott's lawyers argued before a Manhattan federal appeals court on whether the Cowboys running back should be allowed to play while three

The months-long Ezekiel Elliott suspension drama has finally reached a resolution as the Dallas Cowboys second-year running back announced through his agent Wednesday that he will serve out the rest of his six-game suspension. This decision is in no way an admission of any wrongdoing, and Mr. Elliott is pleased that the legal fight mounted by him and his team resulted in the disclosure of many hidden truths regarding this matter, as well public exposure of thet NFL's mismanagement of its disciplinary process.

Elliott is expected to release his own statement in the coming weeks.

Elliott has withdrawn his appeal.

Elliott has already served one game of the suspension.

Dallas Cowboys star running back Ezekiel Elliott is now in the second week after his six-game suspension was reinstated. Elliott began serving his suspension for Sunday's game against the Falcons, which the Cowboys lost 27-7.

An exhausting legal fight that droned on for months between Ezekiel Elliott and the National Football League is finally over.

Elliott, who was not arrested or charged in the case, maintains his innocence after being accused of assaulting former girlfriend Tiffany Thompson in Columbus, Ohio.

Instead of hoping against hope that he could win his Dec. 1 hearing for a preliminary injunction and see him return before they play Dec. 10 against the New York Giants, the Cowboys know the next time they will see him at The Star will be Dec. 18 and the next time he can be on the field will be Dec. 24.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Elliott after the league concluded following a yearlong investigation that he had several physical confrontations in the summer of 2016 in OH with his girlfriend at the time. Goodell imposed the discipline after the National Football League conducted a year-long investigation into the allegations. Jones said after last week's loss to Atlanta he is not anxious about his running back being away from the team for so long.

Elliott, playing in his second season, has rushed for 783 yards and seven touchdowns on 191 carries.

His next hearing date was set for December 1, four games into the suspension. The Cowboys (5-4) have turned to Alfred Morris, Rob Smith and Darren McFadden in Elliott's absence.

The Cowboys play on Sunday Night Football against the Philadelphia Eagles.
