Solo accuses Blatter of sexual assault at Ballon d'Or awards

Just before decorated American soccer player Hope Solo walked out to give an award, the former head of Federation Internationale de Football Association allegedly grabbed her bottom. "Can-I-talk-about-that-">Portuguese newspaper Expresso she "had Sepp Blatter grab my ass" before the two presented FIFA's women's player of the year award at the 2013 Ballon d'Or awards ceremony. The events took place just before the young woman goes on stage, she says, to return the trophy to the best player of the year, alongside Sepp Blatter.

It is not the first time Blatter, who won five elections as Federation Internationale de Football Association president between 1998 and 2015 before being banned for ethic breaches, has faced criticism for his treatment of women.

"I had Sepp Blatter grab my ass". It was the Ballon d'Or I was presenting.

Solo and Blatter presented the Federation Internationale de Football Association women's player of the year award to Solo's USA national team teammate Abby Wambach at the ceremony on January 07, 2013, in Zurich.

Solo posted on Instagram last month a message to women participating in the #MeToo hashtag and speaking out against sexual assault. "I was in shock, completely shaken", she entrusted.

Solo, the most capped goalkeeper in United States football history with 202 appearances, including in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic- and 2015 World Cup-winning teams, spoke out last month about sexual harassment in sport, following the revelations about the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. I always felt I'd "handled it" and stood up for myself in those situations, but there were never any consequences for the perpetrators. She had to pull herself together quickly to give the award to Wambach.

"This allegation is ridiculous", Blatter's spokesperson said in response. "Silence will not change the world!" "It can happen all across the board, it can happen between women", she continued. I've seen it with trainers, doctors and our press officers. "I've seen it not just with coaches". Female players are pretty, if you excuse me for saying so, and they already have some different rules to men - such as playing with a lighter ball.

"I'm actually very disappointed with the women who haven't spoken about it in the sports world", Solo told Expresso. "After [the ceremony] I have not seen and have not been able to confront it", said the sport.

Blatter, 81, has earlier also faced ire over his sexist remarks. Days later, when congratulating the new female members of the executive committee, he said: "Are there ladies in the room?"
