Twitter Put a Pause on Handing Out Verifications

Twitter Has a White-Nationalist Verification Problem

It didn't take long for Twitter to seemingly notice the backlash over its decision to verify the Twitter account of Jason Kessler, who organized the white nationalist "Unite The Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The process has come under fire before, with notable incidents in which Twitter removed Milo Yiannopoulos' verification before dropping the ban-hammer on him altogether.

"Verification was meant to authenticate identity and voice but it is interpreted as an endorsement or importance", the company said on Twitter. Verifications have been "paused" until the company can resolve the "confusion".

The White supremacist organizer celebrated his blue check mark on Twitter by tweeting: "Looks like I FINALLY got verified by Twitter".

Twitter says it verifies accounts of "public interests", which typically includes journalists, public figures and celebrities.

If you have been waiting for a blue tick from Twitter, sorry.

Video Shows Officer Punch Woman Who Slapped Him at UM Game
The officer then responded by delivering a huge punch to the woman's face, to the surprise of the crowd. Meanwhile, Freitas has been charged with disorderly conduct and battery on a police officer.

Ed Ho, general manager of Twitter's consumer products and engineering group also chimed in: "We knew it was busted as people confuse ID verification with endorsement". "I must be the only working class white advocate with that distinction". Comedian and active user Michael Ian Black tweeted that "verifying white supremacists reinforces the increasing belief that your site is a platform for hate speech". Kessler, in fact, tweeted that Heyer was "fat disgusting Communist".

"The system is broken and needs to be reconsidered", Twitter's chief executive, Jack Dorsey, tweeted on Thursday. "Looks like it was payback time".

It's not clear what changes the company is planning or when those changes will go into effect, though Dorsey promised to "fix faster".

"We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter, so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification", Twitter's Vice President of user services, Tina Bhatnagar, said in a statement at the time.

They still have yet to explain why Donald Trump is permitted to issue death threats over the platform or why Matt McGorry blocked me.
