Reports: Gunman wounds several during Sunday church service in Texas

Sheriff Joe Tackitt said there have been multiple fatalities from Sunday's incident, including the gunman.

Multiple people were killed when a gunman opened fire at a Texas church on Sunday, according to reports.

Sutherland Springs is a town with a population of roughly 362, and is located 35 miles east of San Antonio.

Police have told local media the gunman is dead and there no longer an active shooter at large.

"About half of our church members are gone", she said.

A County Commissioner in Texas says he's been told that more than 20 people were killed and more than 20 were wounded in an attack at a church, though he says those figures haven't been confirmed.

A video shared on Twitter by a KSAT reporter showed people crying and holding hands as they waited to find out whether their loved ones are safe.

A man has opened fire in a Baptist church in the USA state of Texas, killing at least 20 people, according to authorities.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also offered his condolences.

President Donald Trump tweeted from Japan, where is his on an Asian trip, that he was monitoring the situation following the shooting.

Abbot is en route to Sutherland Springs to speak with law enforcement and the victims.

A spokeswoman for Connally Memorial Medical Center in nearby Floresville told Fox News that "we have accepted a number of patients from the shooting".
