Michigan State upsets Penn State after lengthy delay

Nittany Lions enter must-win territory

Matt Coghlin kicked a 34-yard field goal as time expired to give No. 24 Michigan State a 27-24 victory over No. 7 Penn State on Saturday night in a game that was delayed almost 3 1/2 hours by severe weather in the second quarter.

Brian Lewerke threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns, a week after throwing for 445 yards in the Spartans' triple-overtime loss to Northwestern.

Michigan State gets the ball back after halftime, and the Nittany Lions will have to spend the 20-minute intermission finding a way to shore up its pass defense, as MSU has 217 passing yards through 30 minutes of play.

It was 1:15 p.m. when Penn State and Michigan State players were forced back into their locker rooms and fans were ordered to exit Spartan Stadium.

Nigerian-born Abraham gets first England call-up
And England manager Gareth Southgate has chose to hand the 20-year old his first call-up for the double header friendlies this November.

Michigan State responded with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Lewerke to Darrell Stewart Jr. for the first first-quarter touchdown Penn State allowed all season. He's thrown for 16 touchdowns and run for 8 more. Lewerke was hit by Allen on a third-down pass that fell incomplete in the final minute. No one expected Ohio State to lose twice to give the Nittany Lions a chance to play for the Big Ten title. The Nittany Lions get the win, and in spectacular fashion - they've got a point to prove after all.

Heisman hopeful, running back Saquon Barkley ran for 0 yards in the first half, and though he broke out a bit in the second, he finished with just 63 yards total, and the run game was far less potent than usual for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State was driving for the potential go-ahead score but went for it on fourth-and-3 from the Michigan State 31-yard line and McSorley's pass was incomplete.

Both teams will be looking for redemption, with Penn State motivated once again by getting slighted by the Buckeyes, and the Spartans fresh off their first conference loss - second overall loss - of the season.
