Dustin Pedroia Out For Seven Months

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is expected to miss the start of next season

The surgery was performed by Dr.

Pedroia underwent surgery to fix cartilage in his left knee Wednesday, and will likely be out until the end of May in the 2018 season, Tim Britton of The Providence Journal reports. Riley Williams III at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NY, is expected to keep the 34-year-old from playing in games for approximately seven months, according to the team. Pedroia hurt the knee again this season, and spent two different stints on the disabled list with inflammation. The Red Sox said he would be able to return in about seven months, meaning he wouldn't slot into the Boston lineup until late May or June.

He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last October.

Penn State beats MI , 42-13
MI turned the tide for a bit, capitalizing on a David Long interception, his first of the season, with a 59-yard touchdown drive. McSorley completed 17 of his 26 pass attempts for 282 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 76 yards and three more scores.

From the start of '17, Pedroia's knee was a constant issue.

With Pedroia ailing, Boston never seemed to be the cohesive, powerful unit it was predicted to be, and the Red Sox were knocked out of the ALDS by the Astros in four games. Pedroia played only 105 games. Other potential free-agent second basemen include Neil Walker, Howie Kendrick, Brandon Phillips and Danny Espinosa.
