Modi's Government Demand This Scene To Be Removed From Vijay's 'Mersal' Movie

Mersal Sets Box Office Collections On Fire

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday joined the debate on Tamil movie "Mersal", urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi "demon-etise" Tamil cinema.

Mr Gandhi's tweet came after "Mersal" came under attack from BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu who allege that some dialogues portray "untruths" about new national tax GST or Goods and Services Tax and the centre's Digital India campaign. The producers have agreed to cut the objectionable GST scene from the movie Mersal. Tamilsai said, "People who saw the film were offended by the incorrect statements on GST and digital payments, which are policy decisions taken by the Union government, after lot of study". The Tamil Film Producers Council and South Indian Artistes' Association had opposed the idea of cuts as the movie had already passed through the censor board and this goes against freedom of expression and will set a bad example.

Actor Vijay's fans have been reportedly circulating the contentious scenes, allegedly mocking the central government's Goods and Services Tax (GST), through mobile phones.

"Joseph Vijay's hatred for Modi is "Mersal". "Don't silence critics. India will shine when it speaks", Haasan said in a tweet.

Narayanasamy on Sunday waded into the row over the Vijay starrer Mersal, saying that the BJP is intolerant towards criticism and attempts to muzzle criticism.

About the controversy over GST dialogues in the film, they said "We have discussed the issue with the BJP leaders including BJP's Tamil Nadu president, Tamilisai Soundrajan". The actor also says that the country requires more hospitals than temples, to which BJP took offence.

P A Ranjith, a movie director, said, "I don't think there is a need to remove portions in "Mersal" that addresses the GST and other issues". We explained the movie's objective, our stand and that this movie has not been produced with an intention to hurt anyone and they have generously accepted it. The movie sources then concluded that they're going to remove few scenes in which actor Vijay is seen taking digs at the aftermath GST.

Especially after the Mersal vs Modi controversy, there are separate download links for deleted/to be deleted scenes.
