Solange Responds to Magazine That Edited Her Hair on Its Cover

Solange - who married husband Alan Ferguson in 2014 - has admitted she has really tried to "own [her] body" this year, because she has "lost opportunities" because she hasn't asserted control over herself.

The Evening Standard shared the whole breathtaking photoshoot inside the magazine-seriously, I audibly gasped and was momentarily robbed of my breath-on its own Instagram feed and Solange's hair is intact in every photo.

Solange, 31, quickly called out the magazine on social media, captioning the original photo with "dtmh", an abbreviation of her song "Don't Touch My Hair".

Clearly the Evening Standard didn't listen when Solange sang Don't Touch My Hair!

Whether it is her hair or her clothes, Solange is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and become a voice of her generation.

The Tragically Hip's Gord Downie dead at 53
Gord Downie and The Tragically Hip perform to a crowd of over 9,900 fans at Budweiser Gardens August 8, 2016. The singer announced past year he had been diagnosed in December 2015 with terminal brain cancer.

In an interview previous year, she explained how she believed hair was "incredibly spiritual and, energetically, it really encompasses and expresses who we are". She also tagged the Evening Standard Magazine's Instagram handle.

"I got to experience women arriving in one state of mind and leaving in a completely transformed way. It wasn't just about the hair", she continued.

The singer had called braiding hair for black women an "act of beauty, an act of convenience and an act of tradition" in the accompanying feature. It was about the sisterhood and the storytelling. "The entire piece was a fiasco despite my efforts", Angelica Bastien tweeted. "I told my editors to take my name off of the byline because they distorted my work and reporting in ways that made me very uncomfortable".

A photographer from the shoot, Daria Kobayashi Ritch, also mentioned the controversy in an Instagram post that shows the magazine's edited cover, writing: "So incredibly honored that I got to photograph [Solange] for the cover of [Evening Standard]".
