School named after Confederate president to be renamed after Barack Obama
The school will now be called the Barack Obama Magnet IB.
Furthermore, we have to point out that it's ludicrous to name a school after Obama less than a year after he left office.
Janelle Jefferson, president of the school's Parent Teacher Association, said the new name will be more fitting for a school with a student population that is 98 percent black.
It's unknown how expensive the name change will be, she said.
There's no word on the renaming developments of two other schools in the county: George Elementary, named after Confederate Gen. James Zachariah George, and Lee Elementary, named after Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. The Davis community had two weeks to submit their suggestions, and voted for their candidate of choice on October 5 using paper ballots, she said.

Stafford is the leader of this team, and Detroit has a better chance of winning this game with him under center. New Orleans RB Mark Ingram's 51-yard run was the longest given up by the Lions this year.

Women ID as assault, harassment victims with 'me too' tweets
Some women and victims of sexual assault expressed that Sunday's stream of tweets felt empowering. She finally spoke up, using the hastag me too .
"They gravitated to that name when it was proposed by a student", Jefferson said.
On Tuesday, she confirmed, however, that the name change would be able to take place for the 2018-19 school year.
The students chose Obama because they were alive during his administration and felt that he shared their principles, Jefferson said. The school sits across the street from the childhood home of renowned writer Eudora Welty, who once attended class there, according to the district website. It had previously been named a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education and consistently receives "A" ratings from the Mississippi Department of Education, Jefferson told McClatchy. He served as president of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Which explains why a school in MS, which bears the name of the Confederate leader who was later arrested for treason, would be anxious to revamp its moniker.
There are now at least 20 schools across the country that bear the Obama name.
According to Mississippi Today, the school's parent-teacher association first asked for name requests during a meeting on September 21.
