Car runs down pedestrians in London

Natural History Museum

Several pedestrians were injured when a vehicle mounted the sidewalk outside the Natural History Museum, with the loud sounds of the collision sending hundreds of people running for cover.

Mark added: 'I think everyone seems to be just trying to carry on as normal because no one knows what is happening'.

Police said that while they are on high alert for terrorist activity, the incident was "not terror related".

"Officers are on scene and the London Ambulance Service have been called, " the Met tweeted.

Eleven people were hurt in the collision although none of their injuries are believed to be life threatening or life changing.

Police had said earlier that the cause of the collision was under investigation.

Todays incident follows a number of attacks in which vehicles have been used to target pedestrians in London, including at London Bridge in June which claimed eight lives. "Inquiries to establish the circumstances and motive are under way", police said on Twitter.

The area of South Kensington in which the collision occurred is home to a number of museums, including the Natural History and Science Museum.

London's "museum row" was open for business as usual Sunday, with the Natural History Museum, Science Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum operating as usual one day after pandemonium broke out after a auto struck pedestrians.

The museum said on Twitter that it was working with the police after "a serious incident" outside the museum and would provide more information later.

A witness said a nearby Tube station was closed.

Mobile phone video from the scene showed a man being held face down on the pavement by two other men.

"Suddenly a female police officer shouted at the crowd to run, and everybody ran in panic, many people were screaming".

Downing Street said the Prime Minister was being kept up-to-date on developments. It's understandable if Londoners are on edge following the incident, as the city has been the target of several terror attacks in recent months.
