Isis-inspired terror plot to murder hundreds in NY foiled

Foiled Terrorist Arrested in Plot to Target NY Concerts, Landmarks, & Subway

A federal court in Manhattan on Friday unsealed terrorism charges against three alleged Isis supporters who are accused of plotting several bomb attacks in NY, including against the city's subway, Times Square and multiple concert venues.

Details of the alleged plot were released yesterday as prosecutors revealed charges against one man in the United States and two in Pakistan and the Philippines who are all under arrest.

According to court documents, Abdulrahman el Bahnasawy, a 19-year-old Canadian citizen, allegedly purchased bomb-making materials to use in attacks in New York City.

El Bahnasawy is in United States custody and has pleaded guilty to federal terror charges, while the other two men await extradition from foreign custody to face charges in the US.

WNBC said the suspect in custody allegedly spoke to one or two other men about also wanting to strike Times Square and subways during rush hour.

The U.S. Department of Justice on Friday announced the indictment of three men charged with participating in an worldwide plot to carry out terrorist attacks in New York City.

According to court papers, El Bahnasawy told the undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation agent that he was in contact with an ISIS affiliate about obtaining official sanction of the planned attacks by the Khorasan Province - a branch of ISIS active in Pakistan.

"But if ur a cop then arrest me now [.]", he wrote the undercover agent. Haroon was to take part in the attack, while Salic was providing the funding. Proceedings for their extradition to the United States were pending as of October 6.

In November 2016, US authorities charged a New York City taxi driver with attempting to join ISIS and expressing support for a truck attack in Times Square to emulate the July incident in Nice, France, that left 86 people dead.

Salic, who is a doctor and is accused of sending money to help fund the planned attacks, was also arrested in the Philippines for his alleged involvement in kidnappings and beheadings blamed on pro-Isis militants, a Philippine official said. But according to the indictments, Al Bahnasawy, who has already pleaded guilty to multiple charges, traveled to Cranford, New Jersey, in May of 2016 and had designs on carrying out the attacks before he was cuffed by authorities waiting there for him.

If convicted on the most serious charges, all three men could spend the rest of their lives in prison. Salic allegedly provided financing for the planned attacks.

"When we come up short on slugs we let the vests go off", he said on May 5, 2016.

El Bahnasawy was arrested in May 2016, Haroon in September 2016 and Salic in April of this year, according to court documents.

"We need a really strong bomb", he said.
