Tesla Inc (TSLA) Offers To Rebuild Puerto Rico's Power Grid

Chief Executive Elon Musk and President Trump disagree on climate change, but both businessmen say Puerto Rico needs a lot of help amid Hurricane Maria's devastation of the island territory. As Musk says when talking about Puerto Rico, "there is no scalability limit, so it can be done for Puerto Rico too".

The idea could come to fruition. Ricardo Rossello, Puerto Rico's governor, tweeted Thursday at Musk.

Maria struck Puerto Rico on September 20 as a very risky Category 4 hurricane with winds up to 155 miles per hour (249 km per hour), cutting off power to all 3.4 million residents on the island. The Category 4 storm knocked out power for the entire island's 3.5 million residents, and they may not get power again for another six months.

Tesla has already shipped hundreds of its Powerwall battery systems to Puerto Rico and Tesla employees are now busy installing them and training locals how to continue the process.

Earlier this year, Musk wagered via Twitter that Tesla could install the world's biggest battery project in Australia within 100 days, or else it would be free. The situation came about through the mismanagement of a whole realm of responsibilities, including planning, spending, debt management, budgeting, governance and contracting, according to the Puerto Rico Energy Commission (PREC).

Scot Miller, who leads General Motor's autonomous driving projects, is quoted in media reports suggesting that Musk's Tesla Model 3 is not as advanced as some people think.

At least 13 killed in Balochistan shrine blast
District administration officials said that the death toll could rise as several injured people are in critical condition. In February, a suicide blast on the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar had killed over 90 people and injured around 400.

Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Business Insider reported "the island of Ta'u in American Samoa can run entirely on solar energy thanks to a Tesla microgrid that consists of 5,328 solar panels and 60 Powerpack batteries".

It started with an Earther article about how the unfortunate destruction of Puerto Rico's power grid provides the opportunity to rebuild it in a far more efficient way.

Not only would Tesla be able to help, it already has on a smaller scale for other islands.

"@elonMusk Let's talk. Do you want to show the world the power and scalability of your #TeslaTechnologies? Puerto Rico could be that flagship project", Rossello tweeted.
