Las Vegas Strip shooter targeted aviation fuel tanks, source says

Las Vegas shooter may have originally targeted high-profile 'Life is Beautiful Festival'

In the days and months before he mowed down concertgoers from his high-rise hotel suite, gunman Stephen Paddock booked rooms overlooking two other music festivals in Las Vegas and Chicago, authorities said.

The downtown hotel overlooks Grant Park where the Lollapalooza festival is held each year and is attended by hundreds of thousands of people. His rooms at the Blackstone Hotel faced the park and were booked for Aug. 1 through Aug. 6 and Aug. 3 through Aug. 6, respectively, according to TMZ.

The report comes just hours after Las Vegas Police revealed the man responsible for the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history spent decades acquiring weapons, while he lived a secret life.

Although the website said Paddock never showed up for his booking, the report suggested a potential scenario similar to that which took place at a country music festival in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo confirmed the report in a press conference on Wednesday. She said she had no inkling of his murderous plans.

A lawyer for Marilou Danley read a statement from her after she was questioned by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in Los Angeles about her boyfriend. He says investigators have recovered items and video from the hotel.

Paddock wired $100,000 to the Philippines days before the shooting, said a USA official who was not authorized to speak publicly because of the continuing investigation, according to the Associated Press.

The FBI's Aaron Rouse said they were aware Paddock was gambling before the shooting. She was visiting her native Philippines. She said she was devastated by the carnage and would cooperate with authorities as they struggle to get inside Paddock's mind.
