J&K: 3 terrorists killed in encounter with security forces near Srinagar Airport

The attack at BSF 182 battalion camp near Srinagar airport happened in the wee hours of Tuesday

Suspected militants stormed a paramilitary base in Indian-administered Kashmir, police said Tuesday, leaving one attacker dead and two security personnel wounded.

A Border Security Force jawan was martyred and three other were injured in a terrorist attack near Srinagar International Airport outside Humhama Airforce station. "The identity is yet to ascertained", Director General of Police SP Vaid said.

A security operation including Army para commandos, BSF, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and state police personnel followed the attack to flush out remaining militants.

The area also houses training centres of the BSF and CRPF. "Explosions are taking place intermittently now", they said.

According to Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, the two terrorists are decked up in administrative building and JCO Mess. The operation could have been finished much earlier had we used aerial weapons.

Victory in fifth match is quite needful for the foes so as to prove that they're one of the strongest cricket teams in the world. It was a change of roles for the openers though, with Rahane leading the charge while Rohit Sharma took his time to settle down.

"While two militants were killed during the night operations only, a third militant continued to fire on the forces from inside the camp before he was killed in the afternoon", a senior police official said.

The officer said the militants wearing military uniforms entered a building inside the camp after breaching multiple layers of high security outside and inside the camp while exchanging intense gunfire with government forces.

"Employees working at the airport have been allowed to proceed but flight operations are yet to be resumed", the police official said. The last year's attack, which caused India to retaliate with surgical strike, was also carried out at 4 AM by the terrorists.

"As long as Pakistan is our neighbour, such attacks will keep happening".

This is the first militant attack in almost 30 years so close to the airport. "There is enough intelligence to believe that we can expect more attacks by them", said an intelligence official, requesting anonymity.
