Denver Broncos announce they will stand for the anthem as a team

Denver Broncos:

The NFL's Denver Broncos announced that they will stand together on Sunday in respect to the national anthem, the country and its veterans.

"Make no mistake - our actions were in no way a protest of the military, the flag or those who keep us safe". Almost three dozen members of the Broncos knelt during the anthem on Sunday, according to the Denver Post.

(Elway wasn't interested in "taking politics out of football" in March when he endorsed Trump's Supreme Court nominee on letterhead the team claims was not official Broncos letterhead but had a huge Broncos logo at the top of the page.) While the Broncos said it was the players who chose to stand for the anthem, it's at least worth wondering how many players were concerned about going against their boss if they didn't.

"There was a lot of discussion about changing the platform", the head coach explained.

The end of the statement here reads, "Starting Sunday, we'll be standing together". "It was their decision and it's their statement and, moving forward, it's their football team". "The players felt [that] obviously it started with good intentions, but it's been so negative".

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now".

The team's leadership council - which is composed of about 20 players including Brandon Marshall, Von Miller, Derek Wolfe, Chris Harris, Aqib Talib, Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Brandon McManus - convened Wednesday after practice to discuss their plan going forward. "We all went with it, so everybody stands".

Joseph added that it is important for all involved to get into the community to "make true change". Perhaps we're getting closer to the anthem not being the biggest story of this week's football games.
