Flights leaving Sydney Airport have come to halt due to a systems issue with air traffic control, with potential impacts to airports around the nation.

Sydney airport urged travellers to be patient.

Air Services, an air traffic control provider, confirmed the technical issue and said it was affecting arrivals and departures at Sydney Airport.

"Our technicians are now working to rectify the situation", ASA said.
