No Dice: Ryanair staff overwhelmingly reject the company's €12000 bonus payment deal

Ryanair 20m euro compensation mess

Pilots working for Ryanair have rejected the airline's proposals to forgo their holiday entitlements for bonuses.

The airline has been forced to cancel up to 50 flights a day for the next six weeks because of a mix-up in holiday leave for its pilots.

Chief executive Michael O'Leary will tell pilots who plan to take four weeks of consecutive holiday in the coming months will be told to reduce it to three weeks, with the lost leave to be taken in January.

He also said there have been no demands for new contracts and told shareholders the blunder had cost the company around £22million and described the situations as a "mess".

Pilots at London Stansted, Dublin, Frankfurt and Berlin have now been offered an additional 10,000 euros per year, O'Leary told a news conference.

The airline also said that 175,000 of the 315,000 passengers affected by the mass cancellations have been rebooked on alternative Ryanair flights. It is legally required to spell out compensation rules when a flight is cancelled and, in our view, have so far failed to do that, leaving passengers hunting around for information.

Ryanair does not recognise trade unions but the letter said it spoke for the "majority" of the airline's pilots.

Italian Transport Minister Graziano Delrio said this week customers' rights had to be protected, adding: "We can not make allowances for anyone who creates so much inconvenience".

He says that tomorrow Ryanair will launch a new app to show individual duty patterns, including days off, and will allow staff to select the period they wish to work, and the preferred base from which to work.

The low-priced Irish airline is forced to cancel up to 50 flights every day from today until October 28 because they "messed up" plotting their pilots' schedules and holidays, BBC confirmed.

Separately, some Ryanair pilots have spoken to the about a "toxic" atmosphere and how they felt "undervalued".

Ryanair said Thursday it expects to have re-accommodated or refunded more than 95 percent of customers by the end of this week.
